Recurring service, or one-time work as well?
WellNest takes recurring clients only: weekly, every two weeks, or monthly. We turn down one-time work on purpose. A one-time clean can’t be estimated reliably until the crew is standing in the house, and when a three-hour job turns into six, the recurring customers scheduled after it get a crew that’s hours late.
Merry Maids offers both, including one-time cleans and a range of recurring frequencies.
Spekless offers both, plus move-in and move-out cleans.
Maid to Clean offers both, plus move-out, for-sale and post-construction cleaning.
The Green Mop doesn’t say on its site.
If you need a house cleaned once, before a party or after a renovation, three of the four above might be good fits.
Does the company say who is cleaning your home?
This is the question we’d ask first, and it’s the one where public information is thinnest.
WellNest says it plainly. Every cleaner is a W-2 employee, never a subcontractor. Everyone is interviewed, reference-checked, criminal background-checked, E-Verified, bonded and insured before working in a home.
Spekless has a different model, but is transparent about it. Its site footer describes the company as “a platform that connects independent cleaners with clients.”
Merry Maids, Maid to Clean and The Green Mop don’t state it either way. All three say they’re bonded and insured, and Maid to Clean specifies it’s licensed, bonded and insured in DC, Virginia and Maryland.
Bonded and insured is a useful thing to know, but a different thing from employment status. The first tells you what happens if something is damaged. The second tells you who is in your house, who trained them, and whether the same person can come back next month.
The guarantee
At WellNest we ask that you share any issues within 24 hours of the cleaning, and we will come back and re-clean anything that was missed at no charge.
Maid to Clean offers a specific guarantee. It promises a re-clean on the next business day, and a credit of the service cost if the concern isn’t resolved after that.
Merry Maids says it will come back and clean your home again. Spekless says it will “be back to make it right.” The Green Mop says “Satisfaction Guaranteed.” None of these three publishes the terms.
A guarantee with a stated window and a stated remedy is a positive.
How you get a price
WellNest gives you a price online in under a minute. Enter your ZIP code, bedrooms, bathrooms and how often you’d like us to clean, and the number comes back. No in-home estimate and no variable pricing.
Spekless does the same, and says on its site that there’s no waiting for an in-person estimate.
The Green Mop gives free estimates by online form or phone, and says it doesn’t need to visit your home to produce one.
Maid to Clean takes an online form or a phone call and gives an estimate based on the size of the home.
Merry Maids asks you to request an estimate online. Its Arlington page doesn’t say whether that produces a number right away or a callback.
Does the company name the products it uses?
WellNest names them. Eco-Me multi-surface floor cleaner, ECOS Dishmate and Dr. Bronner’s castile soap for everyday work, plus baking soda, vinegar, water and lemon essential oil. The Green Mop names ingredients rather than brands: lemon juice and salt, tea tree oil, baking soda, vinegar.
Merry Maids refers to its own line of Merry Maids green products without naming individual products.
Maid to Clean describes its process as 100% green and lists what it avoids, including ammonia and bleach, without naming brands.
Spekless offers green cleaning as an option and doesn’t name what it uses.
“Green” isn’t a regulated term, so the name of the product in the bottle is the part you can check. That’s why we list ours.
Is pricing published?
WellNest publishes a flat rate per visit on its pricing page, along with a few available add-ons.
Maid to Clean publishes an hourly rate, with a minimum number of hours for them to clean.
Merry Maids, Spekless and The Green Mop don’t publish prices.
Flat rate versus hourly rate changes what a quote means. A flat rate is the number you pay even if the cleaning goes long. An hourly rate means the final price isn’t known until the work is finished.
Which one is right for you
If you want ongoing cleaning, predictable cost and vetted and trained staff, WellNest is the company for you.
If you just need one clean and that’s it, Merry Maids, Spekless and Maid to Clean all do one-time work.
If you want a company solely focused on “green” cleaning, The Green Mop is Arlington-based and says it has been a green company since 2003.

Do you offer one-time cleanings?
We don't, and it's on purpose. WellNest takes recurring weekly, biweekly, and monthly clients only, and that's actually a benefit to you. One-time jobs are unpredictable: a clean that should take three hours can turn into six, which throws off the day and makes the team late for their regular customers. By sticking to recurring work, we can show up when we say we will, give your home the time it needs every visit, and keep your service consistent. Saying no to one-times is how we protect the reliability our recurring clients count on. It tends to be easier on the budget, too: because the home stays maintained between visits, the per-visit price is lower than a one-off deep clean, and spreading the cost across the month lands more comfortably than a few large charges a year. You can pause, skip, or change cadence anytime, and there's no long-term contract.
Who are your cleaners? Can we trust them in our home or office?
Yes, trust and safety are the most important component of our business. Prior to being hired, WellNest Crew Leaders and Crew Members undergo a series of interviews, reference checks, and criminal background checks. How much does cleaning cost?
For a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Northern Virginia, a recurring cleaning is $285 a visit monthly, $214 every two weeks, or $200 weekly. Cleaning more often costs less per visit, because the home never gets far from clean. Your own price depends on the size of your home.
