How to Book a House Cleaning Online in Northern Virginia

What the online form asks, why we price by bedrooms and bathrooms, and what happens between booking and your first cleaning.

Phil Harper

Booking a cleaning with WellNest happens online and only takes a minute. You enter your ZIP code, the number of bedrooms and bathrooms in your home, and how often you’d like us to come. The price comes back on the screen, and that’s the price you pay. Nobody has to visit your home first, and nobody calls you before you get a quote for our services.

Below we outline each step, what we ask for and why we ask for it, and also what happens between booking and your first cleaning.

What to have ready

Three things, and you probably know all of them already:

  • Your ZIP code
  • The number of bedrooms and bathrooms in your home, as your real estate listing counts them
  • How often you’d like us to clean your home: weekly, every two weeks, or monthly

That’s the whole list. No square footage, no floor plan, no photographs of the house.

Step 1: Enter your ZIP code

The first field is your ZIP code. We use it to confirm we cover your address and that we offer services in your area.

If you’re outside our service area, the form tells you so right there instead of collecting your name and getting back to you later.

Step 2: Bedrooms and bathrooms

Next you tell us how many bedrooms and bathrooms your home has. Two things are worth knowing here.

Enter every bedroom and bathroom, including the ones you don’t use. Plenty of people have a guest room nobody sleeps in or a basement bathroom nobody visits. Please count them anyway. We use bedrooms and bathrooms as a way to estimate the size of the whole home, the size of the common areas (e.g. kitchen), and the overall usage of the home; if you leave rooms out, the estimate might not be accurate and the price won’t match the house.

Round half baths up. A powder room counts as a bathroom. To be sure, just use the count from your listing.

The price you see covers the whole home, not just the rooms you entered. Kitchen, living room, dining room, stairs, hallways: all of it is included. We just use bedrooms and bathrooms as the simplest way to size the job. The rest of the industry tends to use a formula of square footage plus number of rooms plus pets plus an in-home assessment, and we like to keep it simple! And with over 75,000 cleanings after 10+ years in business, we believe we have a formula that works!

Step 3: Choose how often

The third component is frequency. Our per visit price depends on how regularly we will be cleaning your home. If we’re coming out to you weekly you get the lower per visit cost.

  • Monthly is our base price
  • Every two weeks is 25% below the monthly rate
  • Weekly is 30% below the monthly rate

For a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Northern Virginia, that works out to $285 a visit monthly, $214 every two weeks, or $200 weekly.

Cleaning more often costs less per visit because the home never gets too far from clean. A house we visit every week doesn’t accumulate what a house we visit once a month does, so each visit takes us a little less time. You can see the full breakdown, including what the add-ons cost, on our pricing page.

One thing to know before you get to this step: WellNest takes recurring clients only. We don’t do one-time cleanings, and that’s on purpose. There’s more on the reasoning in what a house cleaning costs in Northern Virginia.

Step 4: The price on the screen

The number you see is the rate you’ll pay. It isn’t an estimate that gets revised when the crew arrives, and it doesn’t change because the visit ran long or the team hit traffic on I-66.

That’s a real difference from an hourly quote. With an hourly rate, the final cost isn’t known until the work is finished. With ours, you know before you book.

Step 5: Registration

Once you’ve chosen a price and a schedule, you set up your account. This is where you give us your address and contact details and where we work out three practical things:

  • How we get in. A smart lock code, a garage code, a key kept locked and secured at our office, or a key left with your front desk, doorman or a neighbor. Whatever works best for you.
  • Anything specific you want us to know. There’s a Special Requests box during registration. Please use it. If you have a surface that needs particular handling, a room to skip, or a dog who needs the bedroom door closed, you can tell us here and we’ll be ready when we arrive to clean. We review all notes in detail, translated where needed, and go over them with your team at dispatch.
  • Your card. We process cards through Stripe, which is PCI-compliant, and Stripe stores the card details. You’re charged after the appointment, usually the next business day, and Stripe emails you the receipt.

What happens on your first cleaning day

You’ll have an arrival window rather than an exact time. Our teams start at 7:30 in the morning and work through the day’s cleanings, and the window gives us room to absorb a same-day cancellation or a jam on I-66 without turning up on your doorstep two hours after we said we would.

You don’t need to be home. Most of our customers are at work or out running errands during their cleaning, and the entry method you set up during registration is how we get in. Plenty of people stay home too, and that’s fine.

If you have a cat or a dog, we’re glad to work around them. We just ask that curious pets have a comfortable spot to settle, especially once the vacuum starts.

Our teams carry their own vacuums. If you’d rather we use yours, leave it out and we will, as long as it’s been serviced and is in working order.

Changing, skipping or cancelling

There’s no contract with WellNest. You can change your cadence, skip a visit or stop altogether.

For a specific visit, let the office know by 3 pm the day before to avoid a $50 cancellation fee. The same fee applies if we arrive for a scheduled cleaning and aren’t able to get in (so please let us know if the garage code changes!).

You can reach the office by phone, text or email, and you can manage your schedule and send a message to your team from your online account.

Why we built it this way

Phil wrote about this back in 2019, in Growth Story: Service and Technology. The short version is that easy online booking was never going to win the business on its own; word of mouth does that. What it does is remove the part of hiring a cleaning company that people find tiresome, which is waiting several days to find out what it costs.

Booking a cleaning in Falls Church

We’ve served the Falls Church area since 2016, across Broadmont, Tinner Hill, Hillwood, West Falls Church, Jefferson and McLean Province. The form works the same way for a Little City bungalow as it does anywhere else in Northern Virginia: ZIP, bedrooms, bathrooms, frequency, price. You can see what recurring service looks like locally on our Falls Church house cleaning page.

Get your price

You can get a price online in under a minute. Enter your ZIP code, bedrooms, bathrooms and how often you’d like us to clean, and the number comes right back.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

I don't use all the bedrooms and bathrooms in my home. What should I enter for pricing?

We use the number of bedrooms and bathrooms as our pricing model as a simple way to estimate square footage and number of rooms within the home. The industry typically uses a frustrating formula of square footage + pets + number of rooms + in-home assessment + other factors. By sticking with the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, we are able to estimate the size of the kitchen, living room, dining room, stairs, hallways, and other parts of the house. Although you may not use all bedrooms and bathrooms, please enter the total number of bedrooms and bathrooms for pricing.

I see your pricing is based on the number of bedrooms and bathrooms in the home. But what about the kitchen, living room, dining room, stairs, etc.?

The cost as shown on our Home Page is inclusive of the entire home, unless otherwise requested. We simply use the number of bedrooms and bathrooms for pricing purposes as it is the most efficient and simple approach.

How much does cleaning cost?

For a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Northern Virginia, a recurring cleaning is $285 a visit monthly, $214 every two weeks, or $200 weekly. Cleaning more often costs less per visit, because the home never gets far from clean. Your own price depends on the size of your home. Enter your ZIP code, bedrooms, bathrooms and how often you'd like us, and you'll get an exact number in under a minute. It's a flat rate, so the price you see when you book is what you pay.

Do I need to be home during the cleaning?

No, unless you'd like to be. Most of our customers are at work or running errands during their regular cleaning. We'll work out an entry method when you book, whether that's a smart lock code, a garage code, a key kept locked and secured at our office, or a key left with your front desk, doorman, or a neighbor. Every WellNest cleaner is vetted, background-checked, E-verified and highly trained, so your home is treated with the same care whether you're there or not. And plenty of customers simply stay home while we work.

How does scheduling work, and what if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Recurring service runs on a fixed schedule (weekly, biweekly, or monthly) on the day and arrival window we agreed up front. Rescheduling is straightforward. Let our office know and we'll work with you to find another slot. To avoid a $50 cancellation fee, please give us notice by 3 pm the day before your scheduled cleaning. The same fee applies if we arrive for a scheduled cleaning but aren't able to gain access to your home.

When will my credit card be charged?

Credit cards are charged after the appointment, typically the following business day. You will receive an automated receipt directly from Stripe when the card is charged.
